Texas Chocolate Sheet Cake

Given to Jan Mason from Great Grandma Mason(Ester and BF) and used for all little Mason birthdays since the beginning of time.

Ingredients

Cake

  • 2 c flour

  • 2 c sugar

  • 1/2 tsp salt

  • 2 sticks butter (1/2 lb)

  • 1 c water

  • 3 T cocoa

  • 2 eggs (room temp)

  • 1 tsp baking soda

  • 1/2 c buttermilk

  • 1 tsp vanilla

Icing

  • 1/2 stick butter

  • 3 T cocoa

  • 6 T milk

  • 1 lb powdered sugar (3 3/4c)

  • 1/2 c chopped nuts

  • 1/2 tsp vanilla

Ingredients

Cake

  1. Sift dry ingredients

  2. Heat together water, butter and cocoa

  3. Pour over dry ingredients

  4. In a separate bowl, mix together eggs, buttermilk, vanilla, soda then add to the rest

  5. Pour into a 9x13 cake pan (a jelly roll pan will make it flatter)

  6. Bake at 350° for 25-30 min or until a toothpick come out clean

Icing

  1. Heat together butter, cocoa and milk on low heat

  2. Remove from heat and add sugar, nuts and vanilla

  3. Frost cake
